Do you ever struggle with point of view, perspective and narrative distance (who is telling the story and from where in time?), and the way the world, other characters, and the story are shaped by the telling? These are powerful elements of the craft of writing we will explore in this Craft FUN spring sprint!

And, as always, we will also build momentum for our own writing lives, finding the best perspective for creating a nourished and nurturing creative practice that sustains and uplifts us.

Craft FUN is a writing adventure. We take on different craft topics–aspects of dialog, character, story development, and more–and explore how they work–how they dazzle, convince, impact us–in published examples. With these as models, we turn to our own material–our own stories, invented or remembered, and write. In an atmosphere of warm, sometimes riotous creativity and joy, we get words on the page, share them with curiosity, and without apology, and produce some of our best work ever.

It’s a party! It’s a writing parcourse! It’s a journey! Come play!

Class meets every single Wednesday 5 – 6 pm PT/ 8 – 9 pm ET, plus you’ll have access to recordings, the lively chat, a craft archive of classes, handouts, and bonuses. 

On Mondays, we have asynchronous goal-setting and goal-coaching. Find your sweet spot for turning your writing dreams into accomplishments!

Bonus #1: The Power of REvision Bring a passage or a problem you are struggling with in your own work. We will learn how to apply the principles of Craft FUN to the second and subsequent drafts of your work, how to become your own best editor, and take that anything-goes writing and turn it into compelling pages a reader can’t put down!

Bonus #2: Putting it all together: In Craft FUN, you write some of your most powerful, effective scenes and segments. But how do you string them together into a story your reader can’t put down? How do you knit the pieces into a whole? This class will look at some masterful techniques for tying your parts into a cohesive story, and for using the dynamic energy of each one to create tension, surprise, and depth.
