(Roundabout II)
As Elizabeth so aptly put it during a recent mentoring class in the Book Writing World: “If you heard it on NPR, then it has to be true.”

I heard a great fish story on NPR, and although Good Friday has already passed, I thought I’d share it. What I really enjoyed about it was how the myth of “eating fish” on that occasion has been propagated over the centuries. Check it out.

Yesterday, I participated in a poets reading in Sacramento, Ca. I was fortunate enough to place a few poems in the latest issue of The Tule Review. Fortuitously, I happened to be listening to NPR the other morning and happened to catch a wonderful piece on Nikky Finney, who won the National Book Award in poetry for her book “Head Off & Split.” April is National Poetry Month. If you have a chance, you should write a poem to celebrate the month. But please go to YouTube and watch her acceptance speech.
It’s simply fantastic. I’ve also included a link to the piece that was broadcast on NPR, and discusses how the award changed her a bit, and what she learned from being on the road.

For you readers and writers of nonfiction, check out Jeet Thayil and his nonfiction book “Narcopolis” which talks about his life as an addict and how the drug culture changed the port city of Bombay. It is a moving story and it is worth taking a moment to hear the author interview.
