“to the girl who jaywalked in front of me in the rain” I wish nothing but your continued happiness even as you flip your fingers and scold me openly, your mascara thickly streaking the cheekbones and the jaw, lipstick smeared on the teeth – I wish you punctuality and the serenity that comes from knowing that no one is waiting on you, disappointed by you, or angry with you as you drive to and fro, things to do juggled between the ears and on lost pieces of paper; next time we’ll trade – you can slam the brakes and I promise not to yell.

“between the ears” … love the double meaning… this line also reminded me of something you told me when I met you, that often you sat and read in carpool line when you arrived early
