What happens on coaching conferences?
Coaching conferences are a chance for the community to connect live. They are one hour long. I (Elizabeth) am always visible through the video feed, and there is a white board and screen sharing as well as a chat component. It’s quite engaging and personal. Each week, we address an aspect of craft or an element of building a successful writing life. The conference topics tie in with the lectures in all the courses. We always do some writing on the call, and there is time for burning questions–if you are stuck or confused or need some advice. Coaching conferences are a lot of fun. We laugh and we listen and we learn a lot. People leave more engaged with their books and ready to go!
Am I supposed to attend all the calls scheduled each week?
No! Alternate days and times are offered for coaching calls so that you can be sure to fit one into your schedule. Each week, the calls cover the same ground as each other. However, you are welcome to attend more than one coaching call.
Is the Book Writing World only for novelists?
Absolutely not! The Book Writing World is for anyone working on a book-length narrative project. This includes fiction, memoir and other non-fiction. The Book Writing World has offered success and support to everything from political books to mysteries, from memoir to romance, from literary fiction to dissertations that reach for a wider audience. The Book Writing World is for anyone who wants to write a book using the elements of craft that engage and move readers. And the visiting authors have attained success in a variety of genres and reflect the broad make-up of the Book Writing World members.
I’ve written a couple of manuscripts and published in another genre. Is the Book Writing World going to meet me at my level?
The founding members of the Book Writing World include many people with M.F.A.s, prizes and publications. The ideal aspect of the BWW is precisely that you do move at your own pace, you set your goals (out loud and publicly). You get the support you need to make it happen. It’s a funny thing, but we lift each other up and operate a very high level.
“The group has become even more than I expected. It has reinforced my confidence as a writer, I am constantly learning new aspects of the craft, and I am enjoying working with my new writing friends. It really feels like I’m in a fun, intimate graduate school.” — Judith Nasse, Taos, NM
Wait! What if I don’t have an M.F.A. or any experience or maybe even a clear idea about my book topic?
One of the true and, in my opinion, great things about writing is that your life experience is more relevant than your resume or CV. The Planning Course takes you all the way from nailing your idea to creating a detailed plan and structure for your book. “Trading Trade Secrets” is another element of the Book Writing World where you can study craft from the masters–great published writing–broken down into clear explanations of technique. If you are serious about writing and ready to make a commitment, the BWW will provide you with the tools you need to make it happen. You might come in as a beginner, but you won’t leave as one.
What is special about the launch week?

The first twenty subscribers will receive a free webinar with filmmaker and tech wizard Angie Powers on “the no-sweat way to make your own book trailer.” This is key in publishing today. Start now!
Everybody who subscribes during the week of June 3 – June , 2010, receives 10 – 40% off our standard rates. And you are grandfathered in at the rate you sign up for, for as long as you stay a member. Cancel anytime without fee or penalty.
What if I can’t make it to your Northern California bonus writing retreat and workshop?
We already have folks from around the country and even across the world, and I realize that not everyone can hop over to the Bay Area, much as you’d like a relaxed yet intensive weekend in the company of other writers. So I have decide to offer an alternate for those who can’t make the in-person retreat: a day-long writing-and-plot intensive webinar. As we do at a weekend workshop, we will come together, learn, do some warm up writing, and then go off for longer writing periods. You can stay connected via the computer (we even have an optional video feed) or reconnect when each writing period is over. This will be a day to dive into your project and really move through any blocks or fears, with lots of hands-on support and guidance. I am still offering the in-person to the first ten enrollees who can make it to Northern California. And I’ll offer the online day-long writing and plot intensive to the first ten who choose that instead. That means more for everyone, so hop in and claim your bonus.
What is a book trailer and why do I want to know how to make my own?
A book trailer is the latest method of promoting your book. But everyone is still learning what makes an effective trailer for a book. Drawing on techniques for film trailers, Angie Powers will teach you the conceptual and practical skills to make your own video to promote your book. And that will save you thousands of dollars down the road!
What if it doesn’t work for me?
If your participation in the BWW does not motivate your writing and move your book, we’ll give you your money back. This is a NO RISK proposition. Where else in the writing life do you get that?
