day 28 of MyNaPoWriMo2011

Nov 28, 2011 | Magazine Vol. 1

“to the girl who jaywalked in front of me in the rain”

I wish nothing but your continued
happiness even as you flip

your fingers and scold me openly,
your mascara thickly streaking

the cheekbones and the jaw, lipstick
smeared on the teeth – I wish you

punctuality and the serenity
that comes from knowing that no one

is waiting on you, disappointed
by you, or angry with you as you drive

to and fro, things to do juggled
between the ears and on lost pieces

of paper; next time we’ll trade – you can
slam the brakes and I promise not to yell.
this morning until i went to the grocery store, i didn't have a
thing to write about :)

    you are too much!

“between the ears” … love the double meaning… this line also reminded me of something you told me when I met you, that often you sat and read in carpool line when you arrived early

and, oh, yes, I love the tone of this entire piece… 😉
