What happened to the girl who disappeared

She became a Fibonacci flower,
the lowest on the totem,

the strongest within coffee,
satirical propaganda

blared out before the cease fire;
the burden of soot on a chimney,

slang for a continent; another
word for a bird’s capped head; a cool

remnant of a white dwarf star;
a void, a common snake, a vent

in the sea floor where hot
water shoots out, a kind of carbon

to make tires and pigment, ivory,
slate, a river, a canyon, a sea.
another day, another girl poem, another american sonnet

    whew…so many powerful images…”burden of soot on the chimney” and “slang for a continent” both got me, made me feel the largeness of something that has happened (conflagration, defeat)
