day 25 of MyNaPoWriMo (write a poem a day)

K. on Broadway

She was the kind of girl who gathered
like a storm, gaining momentum

in every moment as she churned
by the water’s edge, toes curling

in the foam, her complexion perfect
as the sun hid behind the bank

of clouds, waiting for the next big
event to present itself,

give her another chance to expose
her strengths and hide her weaknesses

and give the world another show –
better than the previous night’s

extravaganza, her smile dazzling
and deadly, through her diamond tears.
today's question: what if you described a hurricane like a girl?

this brings Antigone to mind for me (forgive me, just finished reading it for the millionth time with my tenth graders)…
i love the strength of the d’s in the final two lines (i felt the bite of driving rain in a gale) and the image of her toes curling in the foam…beautiful
