Endora

I loved her for her spunk, that flaming red
hair, her unwillingness to concede

that her witchery was anything less
than a god- given right at eventual

perfection; her prowess and ability
to outwit the warlocks, her fun

at the expense of her hapless mortal
son-in-law; the best was when she’d pop in

and out, calling Dr. Bombay and I’d
instantly be transported to the wide

wonderful world of Sundays in the long ago
past, watching reruns with my cousins,

sneaking pineapple chutney and samosas,
making the crumbs disappear like magic.

I loved betwitched, thought it was the coolest.
I remember watching it with my cousins and sneaking
snacks i wasn't supposed to eat -- and my cousins
laughing every time she'd call for the doctor
since the city name was anglicized and therefore
mispronounced.....

i love love your last line…the disappearance of “evidence” that kids can bring about so quickly it’s as if by magic… i loved the enjambment and sound of “wild//wonderful world”…I love the sweet secret circle of the kids following on the heels of endora’s spunk and fire
